Police are investigating a boxer's claims he was assaulted by a photographer while shielding former glamour model Katie Price from a gang of paparazzi.
Featherweight fighter Robin Deakin, 23, told The Mirror one of the celebrity snappers just "snapped" as he tried to protect the 31-year-old reality TV star, formerly known as Jordan, from a scrum of photographers outside her exclusive home on Lunghurst Road, Woldingham.
But luckily for the photographer, pro boxer Mr Deakin turned the other cheek and kept his cool, despite receiving a black eye and a bruised lip.
He told The Mirror: "I know Katie. I've met her a couple of times training in Brighton. I saw her outside school in her car and offered to follow her home in mine to slow up the paparazzi
"She drove into her home and tooted to say thanks, but I got blocked in. I was surrounded and couldn't get away, so I got out.
"One of the photographers then hit me three or four times. I just laughed and told him he hit like a girl.
"I could have taken him down, but I didn't, it could have ended my boxing career and boxing is my life. You can tell whoever it was I'll be happy to give him a boxing lesson any time."
Mr Deakin, of Raworth Close, Maidenbower, Crawley, said he reported the assault to the police, but claims at first officers at Surrey Police laughed at him, a claim that is strongly denied.
He added: "I like Katie. She's one of us, a genuine girl. I think people should give her a break.
"I'm not a big bloke but I can handle myself. I'd bodyguard for her for free, she needs someone around her."
A spokesman for Surrey Police said: "Detectives from Reigate CID are investigating an assault which occurred in Woldingham on Friday, 11 September.
"From the outset of the police investigation the victim advised officers he wanted the suspect identified and words of advice to be given."
"All offences are thoroughly investigated in accordance with the victim's wishes. Officers have located the vehicle believed to have been involved in the assault but due to insufficient detail regarding the suspect we have not been able to identify the person responsible for the assault."
